Jim Helman serves as CTO at MovieLabs, a technology joint venture of the six major Hollywood studios, where he oversees a range of projects to develop technologies, systems and formats to transform digital entertainment and distribution. Jim leads MovieLabs' initiatives in high dynamic range video and security, as well as having led the design and engineering of the Entertainment Identifier Registry (EIDR).
Prior to joining MovieLabs, Jim was chief software architect at Liberate Technologies, where he oversaw the design of a platform for interactive cable services. Before Liberate, Jim worked at Silicon Graphics on real-time 3D graphics systems for VR, visual simulation, and location-based entertainment.
Jim has Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Applied Physics from Stanford University and a B.A. in Physics and Math from Washington University.
